Homework Summer 1. 2012-2013 –
For your homework this half term we are giving you a choice of activities to do over the next 6 weeks.
Each week you will choose one activity and bring it in every Tuesday.
Some of the activities will come with a sheet, but some you can decide how you wish to present it. This could be written, drawn, made, or even on the computer which can be emailed to your class teacher. You will find the email address on the learning logs each week.
Your activity choices:
1. Design a poster to persuade people to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle â€“ ask you teacher for some A4 paper if you need to!
2. Complete the Recycling Questionnaire with you family at home – see pack
3. Recycle something from your home and create something useful! â€“ see pack for some ideas.
4. Complete a water diary of your own to see when and how much you use water. See Janiceâ€™s water diary as an example.
5. Create a word search with all of the topics key vocabulary in â€“ see pack for sheet.
6. Create an Eco-Super hero â€“ see pack
7. Write a story all about the adventures of your super hero.
Your story should have a beginning, middle and end and you should concentrate on making sure that you achieve your writing target in this piece of writing!
8. Create an acrostic poem all about the environment. You could turn this into a poster to teach people all about what you have been learning. Here is one we had a go at!

9. Design a comic strip all about being green! â€“ See pack for template
10. Write your own Maths word problems all about the environment â€“ donâ€™t forget to solve them with a Maths story! Please complete these in your homework book or on the sheet provided. Here is an example:
Miss Brunton rides her bicycle for 10 miles. Miss Oâ€™Neil rides her bicycle for 15 miles. How much farther does Miss Oâ€™Neil ride?
15 â€“ 10 = 5 miles
Homework Autumn 2.Â 2012-13
We will have a Maths focus this half term.Â Differentiated packs will be sent out in week 1.
Homework is sent home on a Friday and due back in the following Tuesday.Â If you have any questions or would like some support with this please do not hesitate to ask!

This half termâ€™s homework is going to be Maths based, where you will have a different Maths topic to look at each week.
You do all of the homework on the sheets provided in this pack and hand the pack in every Tuesday. Any working out can be do on the back of the maths sheet.

Homework Spring 2
Creating a Roman Board Game
Your homework for this half term is to make your very own board game! However your board game has to have a Roman theme to it based on all of our work on the big question for the spring term which is what have the Romans done for us?
We want your board game to have roman characters, be set in a Roman place or Villa (let your imaginations run wild!) but most of all it should be fun!
Week one (due in Tuesday 22nd February 2012, over the half term break!)

Investiagte. We would like you to investigate board games. Think about their historyâ€¦ what was the first board game ever invented, what did the Romans do for entertainment and how have they changed over the years. (We are hoping that this will help you with ideas about your own game!)

Play a board game with your friend or family and tell us all about it! Why was it fun? What did you have to do? Did you follow the rules? Would you recommend it to a friend? Did it give you any ideas about your own game? You can take photos or just explain what you did! Enjoy!

Planning your own game.
We would like you to plan a Roman themed board game, from your research and experience playing a board game. Consider how many people can play it? What the aim of the game is? Characters and setting of the game? Let your imaginations run wild with Roman gods and legionaries taking over Britain!
Week 4 (due in Tuesday 13th March 2012)
Making own game board and pieces. Time to get creative, you can present or make your game using any materials you have at home, they can be 2d or 3d itâ€™s up to you but try and stick to your plan! Bring your game into school with all the parts and we will have time to play them!
Week 5 (due in Tuesday 20th March 2012)
On a sheet of card or on a blank piece of paper.
Writing a rule sheet/ intructions. Based on your experience playing games and your knowledge of your own game can you write what equipment/ pieces are included the overall aim of the game and a step by step guide to playing the game.
Week 6 (due in Tuesday 27th March 2012)

Evaluate your game, think about how successful it was what your friend thought about it how could it be improved? Did you family play it and can you get quotes from them to support your game. You could even create and advert to sell your game saying how fantastic and amazing it is!!
Have fun with this homework but remember to bring it in on Tuesdays so we can see your progress with it!
Spring 1 Magazine Homework:
Your homework this half term is to create your very own magazine! Your magazine can be about anything that you are really interested in for example, Horses, Football, Dancing, Art etc.
You will be given a blank magazine and each week you will complete one page of your magazine so at the end of this half term you will have completed your own fabulous magazine.
Week 1: Due in on Tuesday 10th January
Your task: Magazine Planning sheet. To make sure you know exactly what your magazine is going to be about you need to fill in the â€˜Magazine Planning Sheetâ€™. If you can have a look at a couple of magazines to get a few ideas then great!
What you need to hand in: The completed â€˜Magazine Planning Sheetâ€™
Week 2: Due in on Tuesday 17th January
Your task: Fact page. This week you are going to fill in the Fact Page Sheet of your magazine. There are 6 empty boxes. For each box write down, in your neatest, joined up handwriting, a fact about the topic of your magazine. Do not write down the page number yet at the bottom â€“ you will do this on the last week of the homework.
What you need to hand in: The completed Fact Page with 6 interesting facts about your topic. You can also add pictures around the around the outside and any other information you might want to add.
Week 3: Due in on Tuesday 24th January
Your task: A story. All magazines have stories which are something to do with what the magazine is about. For example, a Football magazine might have a match report, a Horse magazine might have something about a girl who always wanted to learn to ride and she eventually did or a Toy magazine might have a story of how you play with it or why you like it. Your story doesnâ€™t have to be real, you can use your imagination and make it up if you want to.
What you need to hand in: A piece of writing which has a beginning, middle and end. You also need to use your neatest, joined up handwriting. Donâ€™t forget to use punctuation, connectives and describing words: show off what you can do! There is space at the bottom of the page so you can add some pictures if you want to. If you need extra lines to write then just use the back of the paper. Do not write down the page number yet at the bottom â€“ you will do this on the last week of the homework.
Week 4: Due in on Tuesday 31st January
Your task: Puzzle Page. All magazines have a Puzzle page and so will yours so you will create your own puzzles..
What you need to hand in: A Puzzle page which has:
– a word search in with words relating to your topic.
– a spot the difference. Draw a picture in the 1st box, then in the second box draw the same picture but make 4 changes to the picture in the first box.
– for the space underneath the spot the different you can create your own puzzle if you can think of one.
Do not write down the page number yet at the bottom â€“ you will do this on the last week of the homework.
Week 5: Due in on Tuesday 7th February
Your task: Front cover and Contents Page. Now
What you need to hand in:
– Front cover: A colourful front cover which tells the reader what exciting things are in your magazine. The large box at the top is for the name of your magazine, the other smaller boxes/ shapes are for you to tell your reader what else is in your magazine. Remember to add colours and pictures to your front colour and give your magazine a price.
– Contents page: You need to order your pages that you have completed over the half term (not including the planning page) and write the page number in the box in the bottom corner. Then in your contents page, next to each page number, write the title of that page. If you have added any extra pages then donâ€™t forget to add them to your contents page.
If you want to add any more pages to your magazine then please feel free to do so using the additional blank pages provided.

Your homework this half term will be all about Superheroes.
Week 1: Design your super hero â€“ to be handed in on Tuesday 8th November
Task: Think about the Superheroes you already know (Superman, Spiderman, The PowerPuff girls etc) What special powers do they have? How did they get their powers? You are going to create your very own Superhero and give them super powers. You can use super powers that you already know like flying and visibility and you can also invent your own super powers.
What I want to see for your homework (outcome): (this is to be done in your homework book or any other creative way). A detailed drawing/picture of your Superhero labelled with descriptions (adjectives) and their name. Also a list of the super powers that your hero has and what they are used for.
Week 2: Calligrams â€“ to be handed in on Tuesday 15th November
Task: (This is to be done on the provided sheet inside the homework pack) Can you remember what a calligram is? (a word/ poem that looks like the word itself) Using the calligram sheet provided create your own calligrams for the given words. There is even a space for you to choose your own word and then create a calligram of that word.
What I want to see for your homework (outcome): The calligram sheet completed and coloured. After you have completed the 6 small boxes â€“ choose your favourite calligram and reproduce a larger version.
Week 3: Comic Strip â€“ to be handed in on Tuesday 22nd November
Task: (This is to be done on the provided sheet inside the homework pack) A comic strip is just another way of telling a story but through pictures (have a look at the example of a spiderman comic strip in your homework pack). You are going to create your own comic strip â€“ in your comic strip you are going to make up a story about your superhero stopping a villain (evil person). Your Superhero could save the World, stop the villain from litteringâ€¦..itâ€™s your choice.
What I want to see for your homework (outcome): Your comic strip completed with pictures and speech bubbles in the large boxes and in the small boxes underneath write a sentence to say what is happening in that picture.
Week 4: Story Writing â€“ to be handed in on Tuesday 29th November
Task: (This is to be done in your homework book or any other creative way). Now you have completed your comic strip â€“ you can write the story of what is happening in the pictures. Can you use speech in your story?
What I want to see for your homework (outcome): A story which has a beginning, middle and end and is written used joined up writing. Your story should also have time connectives and adjectives.
Week 5: Puzzled â€“ to be handed in on Tuesday 6th December
Task: (This is to be done on the provided sheet inside the homework pack) Your Superhero has been has trapped in a room and to escape he/she must work out the codes. Youâ€™re going to help by working out some Maths questions which are in the homework pack so you can give him the codes he/she needs to escape.
What I want to see for your homework (outcome): Make sure you line the numbers up in the right columns and use a ruler to draw the maths table. Remember how to tackle tricky columns for additions and subtractions.
Week 6: Acrostic Poem â€“ to be handed in on Tuesday 13th December
Task: (This is to be done in your homework book or any other creative way). An acrostic poem is where you use the first letter of a word and write a sentence which starts with that letter. For example, an acrostic poem for tree:
Tall green leaves blow in the wind.
Ripe apples can grow.
Evergreen trees standing strong.
Everyone needs trees to survive.
You are going to write your own acrostic poem using the name of your superhero.
What I want to see for your homework (outcome): Using the name of your Superhero I want you to write an acrostic poem. Try to make sure that the sentences you write are about your superhero.

Time Machine Project
Week 1:Draw a time machine.
Due in on Tuesday 13th September 2011
Imagine you are a scientist.
You have just invented a time machine â€“ well done! Now draw a diagram of your time machine. Use labels to show the details. Draw a diagram of the inside and the outside. Make it as colourful as you can.
What types of noises do the buttons make when you press them? Are there any flashing lights?
Do you need to write some instructions on how to use the time machine?
What will you call your time machine? I might call mine â€œMystical Machine of Mysteryâ€
Are there any special features of your time machine?
Week 2: Where are you going to go?
Due in on Tuesday 20th September 2011
Choose a place to go in your time machine where you will find Pirates.
Write about what happens when you get into your time machine. What is your journey like? How do you feel about travelling through time? Does it make your head spin? Does your tummy feel funny?
Week 3: You arrive.
Due in on Tuesday 27th September 2011
Write about what you can see as you step out of the time machine. Remember to include smells, sounds and feelings.
Is it day or night?
Can you see any people or animals?
Are there any buildings?
You can include a drawing as well as writing.
Week 4: You meet a Pirate.
Due in on Tuesday 4th October 2011
You go to investigate some strange sounds and you meet some people from the time you are visiting. They wonder who you are and are a bit scared of you.
Do you make friends in the end or do you have to run away? Write a story about this.
Week 5: You find an important object.
Due in on Tuesday 11th October 2011
You find an object that is very important in the time that you are visiting. Draw a picture of it.
Make sure that it is realistic, for example you wonâ€™t find a jet powered car in the time of the dinosaurs!

Week 6: You have an adventure.

You are asked to help with an important task.
What adventure are you going to have? For example I might be asked to go and help rescue a trapped baby dinosaur.

Due in on Tuesday 1st November 2011
Write the story of your last few days.
How do you feel? Are you sad or excited?
What souvenirs would you take back with you?
